My holidays 2008
From the desk of Samy,
Hi folks!
It’s been a while since last time we talked. It’s been a weird time (July/August).
On July I didn’t have to study because I had passed all the February exams on the first attempt (first time ever) so, I went to the beach with my girlfriend (Beth) a few days. We stayed at Calafell because my parents had rented an apartment there. Unlucky for me, when I came back, something strange happened to me: I got up with two fingers swollen… Out of the blue! Well, it may be a… Dunno. Just let it go.
I started to work at home (I wanted to work but finally I didn’t get any job due to exams and so on, therefore my father gave me some work, proceeding from his company, which I could do at home). I had to test 25.000 small pieces, manually. It meant I had to manipulate them with the fingers mentioned above. Well, it hurt but it was bearable.
But then, when I got up the next day… I couldn’t walk! It was a nightmare! I couldn’t even stay standing. It seemed my left ankle had decided to hurt a lot even though it wasn’t swollen (like my fingers). Ibuprofeno… It didn’t work. I went to the ward but the doctor told me to go ahead taking ibuprofeno (it’s a sedative medicine). Well, he was the specialist so he was supposed to know what was going on. I started to be able to walk and I went to the beach so that I could enjoy the sea a little bit. Bad choice! The next day, I had my ankle swollen and I couldn’t walk again. I went to the doctor because it wasn’t normal. He was clear: urine and blood test to determine what could be making this inflammations, maybe it wasn’t as superficial as he thought first.

I hate needles! I can’t bear it. I can’t handle it! I’m 21 and I’ve had to make blood test a few times (more than the normal ones) because I’ve been operated 4 or 5 times (and also two times… Spinal tap), but there’s no way. And by the way, there are people out there who still thinks you only have to prepare yourself and it won’t be a drama… Oh my gosh! I have a phobia of needles, prepare oneself is not enough for me! Either way, concluding: it was 20 minutes seated down, feeling sick and with a considerable headache.
I finished my work and then I went to the doctor again, results of the test were ready. Nothing. I had nothing. Doctor told me that it could be reuma (juvenile) but the test showed negative. But my knee was getting worse so I started to take cortisona in order to control it. My parents left to Andalucia and I was alone at home. Then, I started to got fever. 39º. It was 1th August… My birthday (21). You already know that the normal average is 36 +-0′5. I came back to the doctor (again) and he told me that it probably was due to the inflammations. Well, I had to travel in a few days so we managed to jump the queue and see a specialist. She told me I could only travel under some conditions: no fever and just in case I felt fine, and If I had some problem, I had to come back immediately.
Summarising, I left. My girlfriend, her parents and me. We enjoyed Mallorca a lot! Our hotel had a very nice swimming pool and a waiter offering us cocktails all the time… Very nice, and beautiful
Besides, my knee was getting better. Then, I left to Cadiz, with my parents (I have family there). I used to go there twice per year at least, but I was 18 last time I went there. Cool sunny days and “waw, haven’t you grown!” million times per hour (let’s compare, 3 years ago: 1′89m ~ 76kg. Now: 1′90m ~ 91′5kg) would be the sentence. After 5 days, I got a plain from Jerez de la Frontera to Barcelona, because I had to take another blood test (again and again and again and…)
Well, the next days till now, nothing very extraordinary except for my girlfriend’s present, 30 minutes on a water craft, it was so cool! but… So much!
Now, it’s time to wait till the results of my only retake (PiE - 160 total students, June exam: 60 showed up, 23% passed the exam… and only 30 showed up at the retake… haha) and wait for the start of the new course! And to hope my reuma (actually, I still dunno what I have) won’t get worse so that I can start doing sport again… hehe
Two pictures that can sum up this summer!
