I’m pissed off! Who is the problem: the students or the teacher?

Filed under: Uni — admin @ 2:59 pm

From the desk of Samy,

I used to think, when I was younger, that if the students didn’t pass an exam, the culprit was the teacher. I was about 15 and I hate the way teachers corrected exams. Time goes by, and now that I’m at University, I’ve changed my mind: the only culprit of pass or fail an exam is the student. Maybe the subject is very difficult and the exam as well, but you should already know that. But, of course, there is always the exception that proves the rule. When only 4 people out of 90 pass an exam … the culprit, without hesitating, is the teacher. Neither for the exam nor for the correction method but for the methodology that the teacher uses at class. We have passed subjects very much difficult and important, but only 4 people have been able to pass the fucking exam of probability and statistics. Come on, we are not the problem. Change your methodology and start teaching at class… One thing that you should start to do, because if not, we don’t know what do you want and how do you want that, a book doesn’t teach this… ¬¬

I’m pissed off, it was the exam which I had been studying more and I thought I had pass it without problems! It has been the hardest exam I’ve ever seen in this subject though(comparing the exam with other courses). Ok, I’ve got one for September… I’m not gonna work now either, thanks a lot ¬¬

I almost had a perfect this course. I only have one retake… Unfair, in my opinion, but I have one retake anyway. I wanna rip someone’s head off…

PS: My mark is… 4.9 / 10.

Bruce Schneier’s speech: IT’s impact on the world economy

Filed under: Computing, Conferences, Uni — admin @ 5:32 pm

Bruce SchneierFrom the desk of Samy,

Fortunately, the other day I had the opportunity to attend another conference (I’m getting used to it): Bruce Schneier came to ETSE (my faculty, in UAB) in April, 24. A brief introduction about who Bruce is:

Bruce Schneier (born 15 January 1963) is an American cryptographer, computer security specialist, and writer. He is the author of several books on computer security and cryptography, and is the founder and chief technology officer of BT Counterpane, formerly Counterpane Internet Security, Inc.

Bruce is an internationally renowned security technologist and author. Described by The Economist as a “security guru,” Schneier is best known as a refreshingly candid and lucid security critic and commentator. When people want to know how security really works, they turn to Schneier.

Now that we know a little bit more about him, let’s start! I hadn’t the foggiest about what he was going to tell us and it surprised me: The IT impact on the world nowadays, very close to security matters.

From now on, I’ll write this post according to Bruce, reproducing what he said.

Bologna plan + dissapointed with the university’s teaching method

Filed under: Uni — admin @ 10:02 pm

Hi! After so time, I’m back. I was working on Xmas and after that, I had to study (you know, exams and so on).

First, I wanna talk about Bologna plan. Not all the points that it includes, only those which affected me most.

Sincerely, I don’t really care about privatize as a lot of people care… I think that is important, but it doesn’t worry me. Yeah, I don’t like it, but I do not have problem with that, my family, as a medium status, haven’t been affected with that. So, I respect all people that complaint about it, but I’m not gonna follow them actively.

I’m gonna talk about what Bologna plan means in my degree: Science Computer Engineering at UAB (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. Faculty: E.T.S.E. [Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria]).

At first, even though it meant more work at home, it seemed good (yeah, why not?): Homogeneous studies among Europeans, the continuous work matters (so you don’t depend on just an exam at the end of the term)…

Nevertheless, it hasn’t been exactly like that. (more…)
