Which hosting is better, 000webhost or dreamhost?

Filed under: Internet, Wordpress — admin @ 12:48 am

Which hosting is better? Which is worth more? 000webhost (free/upgrades) or dreamhost? a bit analyze of each one:

From the desk of Samy,
Some months ago, I started to search for some free hosting so that I could host my wordpress blog. I was tired of the non-free wordpress.com blog. So, my requirements were a few but important: I didn’t want ads of any kind and I need (or, at least, I wanted) a good bandwidth. I found 000webhost. It’s free, it has a good bandwitdh (100GB/mth) and it doesn’t have ads of any kind, as I wanted. The whole list of features is available here. It was the best I found so, my blog is in 000webhost. Did I like it? Kind of. What’s kind of? Sometimes, my blog was unavailable due to server causes. The first time that my blog was down was OK, but I didn’t like it much. After 5 or 6 months with 000webhost I’ve had some downtime’s problems, but the blog is alive and I think that, in this field, 000webhost is good (remember that it’s free). I hosted another website here: my own security system, running in my room PC, with scripts created by Aitor[thank you, Aitor;)] (I only modified them a bit because I needed to adapt them to my computer and necessities, of course).
However, when I started to design and to develop my own website, which will include a database (mysql), some firefox plugins (XUL. BTW, I haven’t the foggiest about programming in XUL… But I’ll learn it :D), among others, 000webhost wasn’t the best option. Why?

SQL Injection

Filed under: Computing, Hacking, Internet — admin @ 11:25 pm

From the desk of Samy,

I didn’t want to post anything more today until next week… But this is almost compulsory! My fucking god, sometimes there are websites that make me freak out… How the hell can a so popular website have such a vulnerability?

Talking about SQL Injection is in my blog list now.

What do you think I could do with the following information I’ve just received after sending a VERY SIMPLE attack to the website?

Failed on select title.text, mistake.title, mistake.timecode, media, mistaketext.text, if((mistake.modified3) < (now() - interval 1 year),’yes’,'no’) as yearold, date(mistake.modified3) as date, mistake.type from title, mistake, mistaketext where mistake.id = ” or 1=1′ and mistaketext.id = mistake.id and mistake.title = title.id

Yes… You are right. EVERYTHING.

Reminding that all information (including admin password and so on) is stored in the website DataBase…

Have fun…

Chapter 3 – Uploading wordpress through FTP using FileZilla

Filed under: Computing, Internet, Wordpress — admin @ 12:33 pm

In this chapter you are going to learn how to configure FileZilla (a FTP client) for uploading our files to the hosting and what you have to do to create a database, needed for store our posts, plugins and so on.

To create our database, which will contain all of our posts, etc. You don’t have to design it, just create it… Our wordpress (which we have downloaded it before) will do all things for us.

Once you are log in your account, go to manage account (in the rightside) and save the username. It will be something like aXXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX are seven numbers. This will be needed later, because it’s the intern username.

Username to save

It was quite interesting as he talked about what the tendency of Internet will be in the following years. The keyword must be Web 2.0.

“They” have over 45GB of private information about… YOU

Filed under: Internet — admin @ 7:18 pm

Well, not exactly they

But according to IDC, Internet has already stored a total of 45 GB or your own private information.

It is applied to those people who spend time in front of the computer using Internet (for instance, a 70-years-old-man, do not fit in this stadistics).

Of those 45 GB, half is storaged for the very own user, and the other half corresponds to the so called digital shadow. It means mail lists, blogs, and so on.

Leif Andersen, from Datatilsynet entity, express their worries: We’ve got a lot of emphasis in technology, but we haven’t even take care about how our information is used.

If we analyse deeply this information, we can realize how powerfull newest technologies are.

And it puts on the table a too much profund question to be solved with only a few minutes of reflexion…

Newest technologies are more and more powerfull, and it’s well known that this is potential is incrementing exponentially… So, are we going to be able to control our OWN information? Or it will arrive a moment when we are not going to have control of it?
